Assisi
For a class field trip we spent the day in Assisi. It's this beautiful city set up on the hill full of monks/nuns, and churches. Most time was spent at St. Francis of Assisi's church. It was quite massive having two levels involved. We enjoyed frescoes by Giotto, Cimabue, and some other big hitters. Down in the crypt we visited St. Francis' tomb that apparently have healing powers. This crypt was eerie just like the others. Peter required us to visit the three other churches with Romanesque facades also beautiful. Then it was strolling around Assisi and I of course found the chocolate store to fuel my desire. I purchased some fondente and strach (also known as stracciatella which is like white chocolate with creme inside and little chocolate pieces) balls which makes me miss the good old days of working at Mrs. Cavanaugh's. I loved Assisi because it was much cleaner and not as frenzied. I still however don't understand the life of a monk or nun and where that desire to live that sort of life stems from.
